Activity Week 2014
Activity Week is a tradition at Windsor Park. The normal timetable was set aside for an array of enrichment activities, some that pupils otherwise would not have access to. The week was full of fun, with pupils experiencing a variety of new and exciting activities, which underpin the educational structure and fit into the curriculum subjects.
The first day saw pupils participating in activities such as junk percussion, an animal workshop, line dancing, year 7s went to Chester Zoo and year 8s used their mathematical skills to create pyramids and put their 'thinking caps' on to solve complex puzzles.
On day two, pupils tried their hands at hula hooping, street surf, cheerleading, Tae Kwando, making and flying kites, messages in a bottle, learnt about Kenya and ventured up a climbing wall. Despite the wet weather in the afternoon, pupils and staff remained determined to enjoy all the outdoor activities on offer.
Year 5 pupils, on day three, used their talents at a technical Lego workshop to create buildings and railway tracks; culminating in adding batteries and lights to produce a full display. Additional activities during the day saw pupils and staff on the climbing wall, roller skating, bridge building, involved in science workshops, plus trips to a ski centre, 10-pin bowling and ice skating.
On the final day, pupils in year 5 went on a trip to London to go on the Warner Bros. studio tour of the Harry Potter films. Year 6s went to Shugborough for a Maths Murder Mystery. Year 7s were involved in song writing sessions with the help of the Make Some Noise Initiative. Year 8s went on a science trip to Magna. Over the week, a group of year 8 pupils went on a trip to France.
Activity Week gives pupils the opportunity to try out new activities that they would not usually do, thus giving them the chance to learn new skills and try out activities that they can then pursue outside of school. A wonderful week was had by all, which was engaging, full of fun, new experiences, curiosity, laughter and teamwork.
